Expedia. I should have read reviews before I booked.
I am
currently experiencing a "runaround", with waiting endlessly on line via
telephone, with repeated changes to itinerary,
with assurance
that one out of 4 legs of the trip is confirmed. I panic. This trip is
costing me over $5000.00.
I fear
Expedia is messing it up! I have learned the hard way that I should not
have used
Expedia.com .
By the way,
I booked for this forthcoming trip in October 2008 with the trip
anticipated
April 2009.
I am keeping a
detailed record of what I am going through with Expedia.

Hello,
Just felt compelled to share with someone what I just experienced. So,
I googled "expedia scams" and found you. Put this up is you want,
please protect my identity; call me Chris if you want, but don't use
my e-mail or contact info please.
So. I was looking for a romatic getaway from my girlfriend and I and
thought "Hey, Captain Kirk's got my back" so I went on all those
sites. Expedia, Orbits, Cheaptickets, Hotels dot com. Expedia had the
lowest price, but for some reason, I decided to try to bargain with
the hotel and just called them. I told the girl at the front desk that
I looked at all these sites and the cheapest I found was 239$ a night.
So I asked her if it was better to do that or go through the hotel
first hand and she told me that is is ALWAYS more expensive to use
those sites. She quoted me a price of 199$ a night for a better room!
Anyway, my intuition was correct, and I booked two nights for probably
100$ cheaper and a better room just by calling the hotel myself.
Im sorta pissed that these damn commercials make us think that we will
save all this money when we actually save money by dealing with the
hotel directly. I hope that you can get this out to people so they may
take the time to do what I did.

Comments = Seems to me that
Expedia's
service contract probably
provides that the fees and insurance are non-refundable. That said,
if they
truly didn't provide your ticket in a timely manner, they obviously
should have reimbursed the cost of the fees. It seems to me that if
you'd
filed an insurance claim (since you bought the
travel insurance), it
would have covered this - you weren't able to fly due to a cause out of
your control (i.e., expedia never sent your ticket). This whole
website
looks like a small, but reasonable, complaint, and a whole lot of sour
grapes.

Comments = My trip was a travel nightmare, unbooked flights, last
minute cancellations I was not notified of. Over $200 of long distance
charges from Europe, mostly on hold. Expedia will not return calls,
they
require you call them back or wait on hold. Calling back gets a
different
agent, and is invariably unable to follow up where the last agent left
off, so you are back to square one.
We were stranded at the airport when they did not notify the ground
transport of a flight change (they also did not notify us, we spent 12
hours at the airport). I called and specifically requested they notify
ground transport. They did not.
The return flight was unbooked, and we ended up buying another ticket
and having to stay in Greece longer than planned. Expedia is refusing
to
refund the money.
To say they are crooks is an understatement. Even though the cost to me
is probably less than the cost of a lawyer, their arrogance and
irresponsibility are so outrageous, I will probably seek legal
recourse.

Think about it. If you had a tracking number for the tickets and the
delivery address was correct, then it was the delivery companie's mistake
for sending to the wrong address. Another thing if you look at your
credit card statement "John" then you would relize that your information
was sent to the airline "KLM" who charged for that ticket. OMG, how can
you be so stupid. I understand that you are mad and that you just want
to vent but setting up an entire web-site to cry about something, damn
get a grip. As with any type of travel there are always complications
no matter who you book with. I have been a customer with
Expedia for a
very long time and honestly I love them.
So if you are about getting the truth out on your web-site I will
expect to see this comment posted, and not just the bad items. I
know for a
fact that if
Expedia did make the mistake they would have completely
paid for it. So if you do travel to any degree you will know that
airlines are out of control. I work in the travel industry and know, as
anyone else who does, that since the ticketing systems are all being
updated all the time there will all ways be issues. And the time of your
trip
was when KLM and Delta were mergining. So instead of crying about
Expedia
who only charges a $5 booking fee for flights you need to go to the
source, KLM who charged the price of the tickets.
Thank you,
Well Traveled
This was one of the most pathetic attempt to
defend EXPEDIA. So, just because KLM was "merging with Delta" I should
understand
and
accept being scammed? Should I accept all the lies from EXPEDIA
representatives and let EXPEDIA take 1254,95 U$D?
Try
again, next time tell me that because of an alien attack, the EXPEDIA
booking system had a hiccup
and I
should lost my trip and give EXPEDIA thousands of dollars.
.
Poor EXPEDIA , they only charge 5 U$D, but they try to make 1254,95 from
a single transaction by scamming
customers.
My case
(
http://www.victismofexpedia.com/mycase.htm ) was a
clearly attempt to scam me.
Why
are all "EXPEDIA defenders" so rude? Do you need to be rude to
make other people believe you are right?
Maybe
you are in the "well traveled" , tell me the "facts" you know that when
EXPEDIA makes a mistake they pay. So far, the facts about the
EXPEDIA
promise is this:

each way. They called a couple of months later to say segment #3 would
have to be re-scheduled as airline had "cancelled" flight. Expedia
agent
put me on hold & never came back. When I called back I found out
the
rep had cancelled all our flights... totally gone! In the next 11
hours
(yes, I was on hold or on the line with multiple Expedia reps for 11
hours straight) it got "fixed", then "unfixed" several times. It was a
nightmare! For my trouble they 'gave' me a coupon of $100 towards a
3-night hotel stay that expired in 30 days. We would have had to use
it
during the time our trip was already planned and booked. Worthless!
We
continued to get conflicting emails from them saying our flight were
cancelled and not cancelled. At one point they had us on two different
simultaneous flights. This went on for weeks! We were afraid the whole
trip
that we would get to the gate only to have them say we didn't have !
a reservation I wrote them an email about the problem and said I
doubted I would ever hear from them about it...and I was right!! They
must
be doing so well that they could care less about their customers. Take
your $$ somewhere else, not to Expedia!

I have a very interesting comment today (in a webpage whre you can add your feedback about
EXPEDIA : http://www.victimsofexpedia.com/surveycomments.htm ). Becky sent this comment. I wrote in red my own remarks
to Becky’s comment since I fell obliged to respond to such a devoted defender of a scammer.
Name = Becky

Comments = I agree with some of the other people who have commented
here.....first, you need to learn proper english (does it really matter? How many languages do you speak CORRECTLY besides
your mother language?) , second, you should move on with your life.....unless you have no life (I have a wonderful life,
more interesting than you can imagine). And for your information, I am not an employee of Expedia (No?, are you another
scammer? Is my website interfering with your scam? Because www.victimsofexpedia.com is now alerting people about other scams
too) and have never used them (At least you seem to be smart, why defending EXPEDIA then?). I have enough intelligence to
make my own arrangements, and if something does happen to go wrong, I have enough professionalism about me to get things
resolved appropriately (maybe you have professionalism, use them to teach EXPEDIA). You really do seem like the kind of
person who has a propensity to be correct 100% of the time (I’m almost 100 % of the time correct. Here are some examples:
1) I predicted that in 2008 EXPEDIA will continue to cheat travelers. I was right, read some complaints about EXPEDIA
during 2008: http://www.expedianews.com )
2) I predicted that EXPEDIA will continue to cowardly hide: I was right. EXPEDIA never tried to contact me or the airline
to make things right. As I predicted, they chose to hide and continue cheating travelers.
(as one of the comments noted....the poll and comments are useless because you always have a sarcastic remark if it is
something you do not want to hear.)(Sarcastic me?) I would hate to live my life thinking I was perfect.........what else
could I learn (good and bad) about this wonderful world if I were perfect? Maybe you should take time to humble yourself.
subject = Survey Results
The questions I have to ask you Becky is:
why are you defending EXPEDIA (a scammer) with such devotion? I can only
imagine two reasons:
1) Money: is my website interfering in
some way with your earnings, are you an EXPEDIA investor afraid that
EXPEDIA shares will fall? Are you an EXPEDIA affiliate
and feel that people are realizing
EXPEDIA is a scam?
2) The other reason is LOVE: Do you feel
attracted by scammers? Do you find scammers HOT? Do you find Barry
Diller Hot?
(see a pic here:
http://gawker.com/news/evil-bosses/new-yorks-worst-bosses-barry-diller-246022.php
) (By the way, I’m not saying Barry Diller is a scammer, but he
might have –as Chairman of EXPEDIA-
enough power to make EXPEDIA a honest company. ). It is not like in the
movies. Online scammers are not like Leonardio Di
Caprio in “Catch me if you can”. Most of
the times they are ugly and disgusting. Ahhhhhh, that is: LOVE. But
that is fine, love is perfectly understandable.
Even Eva Braun can be forgiven in that
case. But I doubt EXPEDIA top scammers will like you. You pretend to be
“intelligent enough” and “professional” but you
don’t even check whether my case is true
or not.
Isn’t that a lack of professionalism?
That make me think you have a poor
education and you feel superior by make remarks on my English. According
to your logic you might not qualify for a PhD degree.
Not even for a Master degree. Maybe
you have finished high school and have struggled to have College Degree
(I’m being generous). Am I right or wrong with your
education?. It is just your lack of
common sense and logic is what make you defend a scammer without even
looking for the truth.
To refresh your logic: “Those who scam
people are scammers; EXPEDIA scam people, thus EXPEDIA is a scammer”. Is
it so difficult to understand that?
Come on. Ask EXPEDIA, I predict that
EXPEDIA will never answer you. Please, please , please, send them this
letter and let me know their answer:
Simply copy and paste
the following letter and send to :
travel@customercare.expedia.com and/or
travel@expedia.com
Dear EXPEDIA customer support
team
I would
appreciate if you can give me your version about the “victimsofexpedia”
affair. Apparently there is a guy who created that
site (
http://www.victimsofexpedia.com ) and claims that EXPEDIA tried to
scam him.
He claims that
EXPEDIA failed to deliver an airline ticket (twice) and later, instead
of fixing the problem (originated by EXPEDIA) you
ignored several
messages from him and from KLM to arrange his trip.
He also claims
that EXPEDIA, repeatedly lied to him and tried to scam him by
reimbursing only 800 U$D when actually EXPEDIA charged his credit card
for 1,254.95 U$D.
This is fraud anywhere in the world.
According to him,
he could recover the full amount of his money after 6-7 month only after
he provided to his credit card company proof of your lies and
attempt to scam
him.
Since I don’t
know his name, I’m providing his Case ID: [REQ:21826350]. I’m sure you
have all the details about his case.
Since it is
difficult to believe that a legitimate company like EXPEDIA would do
such horrible things to a customer I would also like to know why EXPEDIA
does not sue him
for libel and slander.
Sincerely Yours
truly,
Becky
PS: I add
one positive vote in this the

Hey Paul or John or whoever you are: trying to improve EXPEDIA's
reputation by voting "YES" multiple time is so pathetic (you did it 7
times) Don't you know I can track your IP address. Is EXPEDIA paying

Is EXPEDIA so desperate to ?
As people can appreciate, this is how EXPEDIA has some positive

decent reputation.

Comments = You keep on running your mouth that EXPEDIA scammed you but
did you ever stopped to think that you could be wrong especially
regarding your credit charges?
I have had a pleasant experience with them and let me just tell you how
such a nut job you are:
In the last portion of the page regarding the emails you sent to the
Expedia
CEOs, you put there that
Expedia charged you 2 amounts. Believe
me, I had the same problem once and the customer service agent was kind
enough to explain it to me.
This is what you wrote:
Ticket price including taxes and fee = 1,229.96, Booking fee = 5.00,
Dlivery fee = 19,99, Insurance = 35.00
EXPEDIA charged my credit card for 2 transactions one of 1,229.96
U$D
and the other for 59.99 U$D.
Now. I can see what the $1,229.96 is for. That's the amount gor your
ticket cost plus taxes and fees. I understand as weel what the $59.99 is
for as well. You just gave your breakdown y'know.
Booking fee = 5.00
Dlivery fee = 19.99
Insurance = 35.00
Total = $59.99
Maybe you just did not know how to ask my boy. Better brush up with
your math before tearing someone's head off!
RE: I'm aware of the math: the point is they tried
to keep money in a fraudulent way.
By the way, why do you vote using different
names like the next two "gfdgd" and Phyllis? Is EXPEDIA paying
you?

Comments = Hi,
I am one of the latest victims of expedia. This happened 2 days back
when I was on my labor day weekend trip in NY.
My husband and I managed to get leave on Friday so that we could cover
Niagara falls,NY also. On Friday night we booked a rental car from
expedia.com for Sunday morning 7:00AM so that we could have one day trip to
niagara and come back to NY at hotel in night. Our return flight was
scheduled on Monday morning at 6:10 am. So, as per plan we went to
location given by expedia to pick our rental car from HERTZ. This was after
getting confirmation email and car reservation number. We spent $30 on
cab as no buses went to tht location on Sunday morning. Expedia had
given pick up location as airport called TETERBORO in NJ. Somehow we
managed to reached there and we come to know that it was airport for private
planes and hertz did not give us the rental car saying at this
location we serve only private plane passengers. When we said that we already
have confirmation/reservation they said we booked it through third
party - EXPEDIA and HERTZ is not responsible for this wrong transactio!
n. They said this had happened to lot of people in past and even after
complaining expedia still takes no action.
Out of courtesy airport people gave us ride to our hotel. Thanks to
them! After that we called up other rental companies but could not get a
single car as it was sunday...most of them were sold out or closed.
Finally, I decided to call up expedia customer care to clean up the
mess. Iwas kept on hold for a very long time and after 2+ hours on phone
the expedia agent replies saying that we are sorry but we can get you a
rental after 12:30 at an airport which is 20 miles away from hotel..and
that I will have to spend more money on cab.
The result was total frustration and disappointment as we had to cancel
our plans to Niagara coz we had already been late by 5 hours and it
was impossible to reach there and enjoy as we would have only reached
after sunset and had to come back before morning flight. I got to know "GO
TO HELL" policy of expedia for victims like us. They just dont care

an email back saying that they would not give me any kind of refund
and thany your for using Epedia. I could not believed it!!! I
was only
in the hotel for 2 nights and I sure that they got more money for
someone else staying the same nights that I reserved. I still do not
understand how they can do that.
I have contact my credit card company and am trying work with them to
get some of the money back. The two nights that I stayed would have
only costed me $206.40 and they got $1345.12. I don't understand how
they
can get away with this. People recommended them as a good company
that is why I used them. I will never again!!!!!!!

when people lie about companies. Oh and an FYI they can sue you for
liable as you state their customer service lies. My son works for

How dare you say he lies. He may have a case against you bacaused not
only does your website attack the company it also attacks him
personally. Which is very very wrong.

Comments = You seem very angry. Do you know that with airline
reservations the websites are third party to the transaction. The airline is the
charging party and anytime a dispute or refund is needed the website
will contact the ariline agent thou ARC and the airline will either deny
or allow the refund. This is totally not the websites fault and
because you think it is just shows a lack of understanding.
I find it really upsetting that you are taking the time to put up this
website when it will not make a difference. There is such a thing as
understanding and fair treatment. It sounds to me that you attitude was
not very nice on the phone to the customer care people. I have never had
a problem with them, but I am always calm and polite.

Comments = I love Expedia.com. I think you are being totally unfair.
You where probally not very nice and most airline issues are due to new
rules from 911. I book with Expedia at least twice a month and I have to
tell you that your websites make no difference to Expedia or any of
their other companies. Only 3% of customers have to call in to their call
centers. Most reservations have no issues at all.
If you are kind to the customer service reps. They will be kind to you.
It is not fair that you can call them and scream at them and they are
unable to fight back.
You seem to be a very vindictive person and i'm sure you did not even
give this company a chance to help you. I'm sure you probally yelled at
any agents you spoke with and upset them so much that they had a hard
time with the call. Your website is unfair and I will report you to
Expedia.com and they will i'm sure make you remove it. Your website is one
sided and rude. I'm sure you want to keep your site that way so I know
that you will not post this where anyone can see it.
I do think you have a good idea what allow free exchange of ideas about
a company, however your one sided and that's why your website will not
be seen by many people and expedia with providing reviews and offering
good service will continue to thrive.
I feel sad for you living in such hatred and when people like you call
in i'm sure you will get what you deserve. If you kind you will get
kindess and if you hateful you will still be serviced.

Expedia.com pertaining to my
HORRIBLE experience with them. Just thought you would
like to see it:
I just have to let you know that this was the FIRST time using Expedia,
and it will certainly be the LAST!! I will not only run the
Expedia.com name into the ground, I will
be informing ALL of my friends, family, co-workers and any random
strangers that will listen, to use
Travelocity.com instead if they expect
to have ANY type of customer service provided to them!!!!
I would have had a BETTER experience dealing with a third grader then
to have dealt with the inexperienced, unhelpful, non-caring,
semi-illiterate individuals that YOU call employees!!
I am SO outraged by the lack of professionalism and blatent lies that I
receieved from Expedia, that I will be speaking with The Better
Business Bureau about this matter! A response to this email would be
appreciated, but probably will not be
recieved, since it seems that no one at
Expedia.com can
even UNDERSTAND the English language let alone be able to WRITE
it!!!

Maybe
because my IQ is above 70, as I could not say the same for you. Actually,
let me ask you this ... how much are Expedia's competitors
paying you to post this trash? I'm almost 100% positive you're getting
something from either Priceline, Travelocity, or Orbitz ... and of
course you'll use your pathetic comebacks to deny this, but lets
face it ... in the full sense of the word, you are pathetic.

account within 2 minutes of clicking yes, ok no prob..... Finished the
job a day early and checked out of the hotel a day early, the hotel told
me to contact Expedia for a refund of the prepaid day I did not use,
called the same night and was told noone at the hotel was answering the
phone to confirm my check out date, called back the next day and was
told the hotel confirmed my early checkout and my refund would be credited
to my account within 7-10 business days, excessive time for a refund,
well I believe so considering they debited my account within 2 minutes
of making the reservation. 3 weeks and waiting, customer service is
usless, I keep getting the same response, 7 to 10 days, when I press them
as to from what date they tell me it could take up to 2 billing cycles
for the credit to appear, funny... I charged it to the credit card
attached to my checking account, I see credits within 24 hours of bein!
g received by my bank. Expedia sucks, they have no remorse for their
actions. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, this seems to be the logical way to get
their attention, it certainly is not by phone or email. NEVER AGAIN.

Comments = Horrible. Never Never Never Never use Expedia. THIS IS A
WARNING!!!!
As I was trying to book flights for a trip to Europege
gave me an error on the final "click". Something about being unable to book a leg of the flight. Customer service also tried with me several
times on the phone. We switched to a different credit card (their suggestion), and got the same error.
HOWEVER, THEY WERE CHARGING MY CREDIT CARD WITH EVERY ATTEMPT!!!
In less than one hour they had CHARGED my card over $8000, and NO tickets, NO reservations, NO confirmations. I called Delta who couldn't
find any reference to my tickets.
Guess what... the money IS TIED UP FOR FIVE DAYS until it "rolls off". I have been on the phone for 4+ HOURS trying to clean this up. Bank
can't help me except to register a dispute, Delta can't help me. AND EXPEDIA WON'T HELP ME.
Customer service people barely speak English, phone connections are bad.
DO NOT USE EXPEDIA - YOUR TRIP AND YOUR MONEY ARE IN DANGER

Comments = As an employee of an OTA (not
Expedia.com,
though I wish I was so I could have the details of your case and point
out your misconceptions and/or inaccuracies), I must say your views on
how things work are very skewed. It's one thing to be angry at a company
because of an error, whether internal or external, that results in major
problems, but to actually believe that a company -- especially as large
of a company and the leader in the industry as Expedia -- maliciously
scammed you is beyond ridiculous. Employees of an OTA have a lot more
important things to do with their day than dick around with your
reservation, trust me. "Scamming" you does not benefit an employee. They
don't get a raise for pulling a successful scam. They don't get promoted
for purposely taking peoples' money. Rather, as would be the case with
any respectable OTA,
an agent that's discovered to have maliciously screwed with a client's
reservation would be fired immediately. But of course, in you! r mind,
the only people working for an OTA like Expedia must be money-hungry
swindlers that somehow magically pocket your cash so they can go install
that fancy new pool in their backyard. Get serious!Oh, and for the
record, it is quite commonplace -- for a respectable company -- to offer
to refund a portion of a certain amount even if the company is not
responsible for the charge. I know the company I work for has many times
offered to pay 50% of a charge from a third party (hotel/airline/car
agency) when we have been unsuccessful in convincing the third party to
refund the full amount as they should. We get it, you don't like Expedia.
So don't use them anymore. All this website nonsense goes more towards
showing how much of an ignorant person you are than anything else.
Expedia is the biggest, and services the most. Nothing you say is going
to stop that. Each OTA has problems, otherwise they wouldn't employ a
customer care department. I know ours
works their butt off to handle as many issues/requests as possible, and
I don't doubt that Expedia's does the same. You got your money back
(from whoever). Let it go, dude. Let it go.My response:
Since this comment (according to my own research)
seem to come from someone related to EXPEDIA (an EXPEDIA's
partner company)You will read my response HERE very soon (I sent an
e-mail to the company asking whether this comment is a company opinion
or just an employee point of view) come back soon to find the

Comments = Hello - I found your website after searching for sites
that detail Expedia customer complaints. I have been given the
run-around by Expedia for the past month. I booked a hotel in Los
Angeles for December 26-29, 2006. I had to cancel my reservation
and did so on Christmas morning. I called the hotel directly
(Radisson Hotel LAX) and cancelled. I wasn't able to call Expedia
to request a refund until January 4, 2007. Since that time I have
made 5 long phone calls to Expedia, and each time get a different
answer. "Your refund is being processed - expect it in 7-10 days}"
(that promised was made on January 11, 2006) or a supervisor on January
31, 2007 saying that she would process my request and call me back the
next day (didn't happen). I spoke with the Account contact at the
Radisson LAX and was told that my refund was
approved (on their end) on January 11. I keep getting the
run-around and am at my wits end. Please help. Michael,

Comments = From a hotel's standpoint, Expedia also rips us off. All
other websites provide a one-time use Credit Card so the hotel gets paid
once the guest checks out. Expedia requires us to fill out a form
and send them a bill. They then analyze the form to find the
slightest mistake and then refuse to pay. This quickly adds up to
thousands of dollars. Also they will overbook hotels even after
telling them that the hotel is sold out. Their customer service
for hotels then tells us that it is our problem. The Account Execs
also just ignore all emails/voicemails sent to them. They truly
are a liability for hotels and I see them rip off guests repeatedly
through phony charges that the hotel never asked for. |

Comments = My situation is admittedly not as bad as what I have heard
from others, but Expedia lied to me too. I purchased a roundtrip
BARGAINFARE flight from Los Angeles to New Jersey for two people for May
2007, which apparently is non-refundable and non-changable. After
booking the flight in October, some scheduling concerns came up, and I
called Expedia and asked them if there was anyway I could change the
flight. To my releif, I was told that I could actually change this
flight for $100 a person. I made it a point to ensure that the
Representative understood that this was a bargainfare flight. She
did.
My partner and I called a month later and they said they can't change
it. Essentially, it is a use-it-or-lose-it ticket. They
would not honor what was said to us earlier... I even had them pull up
the records of our previous phone call and they told us that the girl we
talked to put into a "log" that she had told us we could not change the
flight. It is ridiculous. You either have an employee who is
dishonest, or you have an entire corporation guilty of lieing for their
own benefit. |

could not make the change and that they would return our tickets via
next-day service. That was 7 days ago. Everyday, Expedia promises that
our tickets will ship "tomorrow" and send us an email confirmation with
a tracking number etc. Everyday, they lie. I have spent countless hours
and talked to many customer service reps. We leave in three weeks and I
wonder if I will ever see my tickets, let alone have them in hand to
make any changes. I will never again use Expedia and I tell everyone I
